Exhibition about refugees in Reykjavik

Home-Away is an exhibition about refugees that you can see right now at the Reykjavik Museum of Photography.

The exhibition consists of both photographs and texts, telling the story of people who have fled their homes and somehow have found their way to Iceland, often via other countries or refugee camps.
Paired with every portrait there is an object that is important to the person in the picture, an object that reminds them of their past.

Photos are by Katrín Elvarsdóttir and the texts, as well as sound recordings, have been made by Sigrún Sigurðardóttir.

You can visit the exhibition until November 23.

"There was dead silence in the plane to start with. The children could tell that their parents were not comfortable. The children curled up quietly. The adults were very anxious. We had no idea what awaited us. We were lonely; we missed our nearest and dearest, and we had nothing with us but the clothes we were wearing. At the same time, we knew we were starting a new life."
